stellscope48StellariumScope is a FREE add-on to Stellarium (an excellent, free, open-source planetarium program)which enables you to control your telescope. The original program was designed and implemented by Scott of ByteArts. He has allowed me to maintain the program for the time being.

Features
  • Provides the interface between Stellarium and the ASCOM telescope drivers.

  • Provides the ability to both "Sync" and "Slew" the telescope. It's also possible to issue a stop/cancel command from Stellarium.

  • with the current version, you can easily host Stellarium on one computer linked to another control computer that hosts the telescope driver.

Requirements:

  • the current version released 2010-06-26  only supports Windows XP/Vista/7
  • the current version only supports Stellarium 0.10.5  but should work with 0.10.4

  • there are earlier releases still available (scroll down the page)

  • The installation program will automatically install the documentation but the link to the documentation is provided here so you can read it before installation. Here's the interim documentation for the  alt new version for Stellarium 0.10.4     190 Kb

The image above shows the new interface and some of the new features. The new version is released as a beta test version.  This means there may be issues with the release. Use this release (as with all software that controls your mount) with supervision of your mount's movements.

Release 2010-04-11 (Beta)

Download link: alt Setup_StellariumScope_20100411.exe]

Remember: It only supports 0.10.4

This release attempts to solve some issues involving connections to the mount via StellariumScope.

It is important that I hear about the success &/or failure of this release.

Configurable host option added

The following information applies to older versions of StellariumSCope.

You should also be aware that enabling the Stellarium Telescope Control plugin control option may create issues between Stellarium and Stellariumscope. You can manually create 3 "telescopes" using Stellarium that correspond to the settings that you have used with Stellariumscope. However, it's usually much easier to simply leave the plugin "off" and let Stellariumscope control the configuration.

Known issue: There is a problem with using sync and JNOW option in all current releases with the JNOW feature.  I will fix this problem in the next release that should be available some time next week.  In the mean time, use the J2000 option or use the EQMOD game pad sync button (if using EQMOD).

Release 2010-01-23

alt Setup_StellariumScope_20100123 [1.9M]

This release attempts to solve some issues for those users with different resolution settings on their computers.

It allows you to manually change the keys used to control the mount (you have to edit the ini file).

It enables the telescope connect at all times.

It add some information about running StellariumScope on a computer different from the one running Stellarium.

Release 2009-08-24

Release 2009-06-27

alt StellariumScope 20090627 [1.9M]

This release fixes the problem of the poll time not being remembered between sessions.

It also adds the option that allows the use of the desktop colors theme.  This feature is helpful if you are trying reduce the "brightness" of your computer screen and have selected a theme with  very little  bright colours.

I use Windows XP pro, so my settings would be:

Display properties | Appearance | Windows and buttons | Windows Classic Style
Display properties | Appearance | Color Scheme | High Contrast Black

This gives a very dark screen. It also helps to go into the screen settings and reduce the brightness and contrast settings.

Original Version

An older version of StellariumScope is still available here: Download StellariumScope V2008.6.6 [750KB]

This older version works quite well with the latest version of Stellarium with the exception that you will probably have to use the manual method to setup Stellarium. See the documentation included in the download.

all other versions below are not time limited but are no longer maintained.
